New Steel Rof at Alloa Pumping Station
The Completion of Alloa Reservoir and Pumping Station Steel Roof for the Region of Peel
PROF&E Consulting Engineers have been hired by Romag Contracting  to obtain permits, design and supervise construction of the steel roof for the new 2,100 m2 (22,700 sq.ft.) pumping station. Since the steel roof has been proposed and accepted by the Region as the most feasible alternative for this size of the station to the original precast roof option , implementation of the design and construction details required a lot of coordination with the Owner, design team, and various construction trades. The roof was substantially completed in January 2018. Our team carried out state-of-the-art response spectrum seismic analysis that provided the most accurate results for the hybrid concrete and steel structure. For the lateral load transfer and diaphragm design, we implemented a finite element method that reduced construction cost significantly.

Our Projects Currently in Progress
We are excited about what we do. The following are brief introductions to only two of many projects currently in progress. We are looking forward to 2018 construction season and new projects with you.
Aeration Tank Wall
Orillia WWTP
PROF&E has be engaged by ASCO Construction Ltd. during construction of Process and Tertiary Treatment Upgrades at the plant to prepare Engineer's Report for Pilling Rig Operation, improve pilling details to accommodate actual field conditions, assess cold weather concreting procedures, re-design walls in Blower Building from CMU to cast-in place, develop construction details for an opening closure in existing Aeration Tank wall, etc. During review of existing Aeration Tank, we determined that the proposed closure for the existing wall opening would result in catastrophic collapse of the wall. Our recommendation to have the wall reinforced and turned into structural wall (from the original baffle wall) has been accepted by the Owner. Also, it has been recognized that our analysis saved the plant and perhaps many lives during construction.
Allen Road Fence Replacement
Allen Road Improvements Phase II for TTC
After successful completion of Phase I Improvements completed in 2016 by Alpeza General Contracting with the support of PRO&E, PROF&E is on Alpeza's team for Phase II Allen Road Improvements project. Most of our details developed for Phase I project have been incorporated by TTC into Phase II of work. Our team will assist Alpeza with pre-construction survey, preparation and approval of shop drawings stamped by P.Eng, and other engineering assignments during construction. We have developed project specific anchoring details to accommodate Alpeza's construction approach and actual field conditions.

Aluminum Covers at Ashbridges Bay WWTP
PROF&E was engaged by Hallsten Corp on two projects for the City of Toronto to review and stamp design for the aluminum covers over existing large open tanks. Following successful completion of Ashbridges Bay WWTP project, our team assisted Hallsten to obtain all necessary permits for Humber WWTP. On both projects we carried out design in using the latest design codes for structural aluminum and concrete anchors. In the last few releases of CSA A23.3 standard, the anchor design section has been significantly upgraded and aligned with the US codes.

Silencer Supports at Various Locations
Over past years, PROF&E did many different projects by various subcontractors to design supports for generator silencers and exhaust pipes. On Leslie SPS project, a floor-standing silencer support framing was utilized. On other projects, a hanging silencer supports were designed to avoid conflicts with the equipment on the Genset Room floors. In all cases, the framing layout was optimized in the field with the operations staff and general contractor. A sophisticated vibration analysis followed field coordination that resulted in the most cost effective designs.

Inspection and Design of Structural Framing to Support new Roof Top Units (RTU)
In our association with PointArchitects, last year we had several industrial and commercial projects that required upgrades to the existing HVAC systems. On these projects, our team of professionals inspected existing conditions, did structural evaluation of the existing building framing and recommended structural modifications to accommodate new loads. However, in coordination with the rest of the design team, we managed to keep additional construction cost down to a minimum, and in some cases the additional cost was zero. On this type of projects, we utilize our experience in managing multi-disciplinary design and construction teams to reach the most optimum solutions.
